The small spaces in your home can be difficult to work with. However, instead of being discouraged, utilize these tips and tricks to make your space look and feel larger. From paint to cabinetry, there are a variety of ways to optimize the space you have.
Choose Your Paint Color Wisely
Instead of painting the space your favorite olive green, opt for white. It’s a known fact that if you have a small space with dark colors the room will appear even more closed in than it already is. By adding white paint, the area will appear larger and brighter.
Go Light on The Floor
Again, incorporating light colors in the room will make small spaces feel larger than they actually are. The flooring is no exception to this rule. By adding light colored wood, laminate or carpet in the space, the room will reflect natural, bright tones.
Add Shelving and Cabinetry
When working with small spaces, another way to optimize the area is by adding cabinetry or shelving. Both provide storage space while looking clean. If you’re working with a small corner space, built in corner shelving would make a great addition. If you want to add storage without taking up floor space, consider adding overhead cabinetry. Adding cabinetry is a great way to optimize small spaces without sacrificing the look and design.
Take Down a Wall
While these are great ways to open up small spaces, another option is to take down a wall. It’s understandable that demolition may not be at the top of your list. However, it’s a sure-fire way to make your small space larger. For example, dropping the wall between your kitchen and dining room will not only optimize the space but it’s also a great way to optimize an area for entertaining.
