FISCHER LUMBER CO. STEPS UP AS A SPONSOR OF THE 2017 EDWARDSVILLE ART FAIR

Fischer Lumber Co. has signed on as a sponsor of the 2017 Edwardsville Art Fair. The family-owned lumberyard's sponsorship will be supporting the popular face painting event on Sunday, Sept. 24.

The 2017 Edwardsville Art Fair takes place Fri., Sept. 22 through Sun., Sept. 24 and will be held downtown in the beautiful City Park. Art connoisseurs and amateurs alike can enjoy the featured original artwork of over 100 accomplished artists and indulge in local food and drink.

This event offers fun for the entire family. Every year, children have a blast in the Create IT and Take IT tent, where they are encouraged to create their own take-home art project. Not only are the materials for this craft provided, but the activity is free. Additionally, the Children’s Art Gallery will be open to peruse. For only $50, your child can choose and take home a real work of art. All pieces are donated by exhibiting artists, and proceeds benefit the free art classes provided by the Edwardsville Arts Center every Saturday.

A house remodel can not only be an exciting time, but it can also be quite stressful. From knocking down walls to picking out finishes, there are a variety of steps when remodeling. To ensure things run as smoothly as possible, we recommend following these home remodeling tips.

TIP #1: START WITH A BUDGET

Before you start the demo, we highly recommend you have a budget in mind. Materials can get expensive and if you don’t have a budget to start, it can be very easy to overspend. To stay on top of your spending, create a document that utilizes line items for each area you’re remodeling. Start by listing the areas you will be remodeling. Once those are listed, add an allotted budget for each. We also recommend creating an additional line item for unexpected expenses along the way.

TIP #2 MAP OUT YOUR VISION

Much like overspending, it’s easy to get off track once you see all of the options. To avoid this, map out your vision upfront. Consider the flow and design as well as functionality. Once you’ve laid out exactly how you envision your home remodel, you can get started.

TIP #3 SELECT A CONTRACTOR YOUR TRUST

Although you can get a lot of upfront work done, we don’t recommend tackling a home remodel on your own. Contractors are great because they have the expertise to make sure the remodel is done safely and efficiently. Before you settle on a contractor, we recommend going through a vetting process. Seek out references from friends, family and local hardware stores. Once you think you’ve found a contractor you like, ask for samples of work. You can even ask them for a list of references that you can call. Selecting a contractor that you trust will make the remodeling process go a lot smoother.

TIP #4 FIND A REPUTABLE RETAILER

Finding a reputable retailer is a must. During the many months of your home remodel, there will be plenty of material runs. By selecting a convenient retailer that you trust, those runs will be made easier. For example, here at Fischer Lumber, we go out of our way to personally work with our customers on their remodeling projects. From providing building materials to design support, our team provides assistance from start to finish.
